Potty Training Your Puppy - Fast and Easy

So you have a new pet and are starting to think about how you plan to successfully accomplish potty training your puppy, well good for you! Dog house breaking is critical if you want to have a pet that will be happy and contented. Most dogs prefer to be with their human (that's you) and will not be very happy living outdoors.

Maybe however you may be having problems potty training your dog and need a little help in finding out what's wrong.

Having problems usually involves one of two things.

1. You aren't consistent in the way house training is being handled. There's nothing more critical to a successful outcome than consistency.

2. Your dog may have developed some bad behaviors that are sabotaging your training efforts.

While having problems potty training your dog may seem daunting when you are experiencing failures and accidents, maybe all you need is to review the tips below and check what you're doing against the right way of doing it. So here are a few Potty Training for Puppies Tips to get you started.

TIP #1 Threatening can be good if you want a puppy that will go off to a quiet corner or other part of the house to go to the bathroom. Hitting with rolled up newspapers, yelling in anger, and any other unpleasant reactions directed at your pet will NOT help with your potty training.

TIP#2 Consistent behavior is Important. That's YOUR behavior not your dogs. Both puppies and adult dogs respond much more positively to a consistent schedule than to a hit and miss one. This is the most important key to effective house training that there is. Know your animals schedule and use it to your advantage. Do they get up and prefer to eat right away? If so, right after eating, take them outside to urinate.

Eating presses on the bladder and causes them to want to go. Take your puppy outside and let them go so you can give them loads of praise. This is important because you want your puppy to remember outside-bathroom-and your happiness all in one thought.

TIP#3 Speaking of consistency, use only one word to mean one thing. Don't use Bathroom one time, then potty the next. Your pet has enough trouble figuring out what you want without having you use different words that mean the same.

TIP#4 Crate Training is not the same as penning up your puppy inside the house. Rather, it's a way for you to keep control of your pet in a humane and safe way. Crate training is a day and night effort until your puppy understands what's expected and can hold their waste for more than a few hours. This means that puppies will wake you at night to go out but it's only for a few weeks and this is actually a good thing when potty training.

Of course, lugging a heavy wire cage or bulky hard plastic travel crate into your room each night is not going to be fun. While the work of potty training your puppy is being done, it's necessary to keep accidents to a minimum even during the night.

For the best and quickest result, you need to keep your dog close to you and involved in your life as much as possible. Imagine how much easier it will be to house train your pet without having to deal with heavy metal cages or unwieldy plastic crates.
