Tips for House Puppy Training

So you have a new pet and are starting to think about how you plan to successfully accomplish house puppy training, well good for you! Dog house training is critical if you want to have a pet that will be happy and contented. Most dogs prefer to be with their human (that's you) and will not be very happy living outdoors.

House training a puppy is a little different than working with an older dog because they aren't fully developed. Their bladders aren't very large and need to go outside much more often. The good thing however is that puppies don't have the bad habits many adult canines may have.

WHAT IS HOUSETRAINING? House training is teaching your puppy not to use your house as their personal bathroom.

Crate Training is simply a method of keeping control of your pet inside your home when you cannot be watching them. It is NOT storage of your puppy nor is it being cruel to your pet. Now, here are a few house puppy training tips that you will find important.

TIP #1 Yelling in anger at your dog can make them afraid of you and mistrustful. It can cause your dog to hide in another room to go to the bathroom. Yelling, hitting and threatening your pet only results in setting up a relationship based on fear and not trust and enjoying being together.

TIP#2 Look for reasons to praise your dog. The key to house training is to tie together your pleasure with the behavior. If it's fun, the puppy will be interested in doing more of it. If it's NOT fun, well, see the tip above.

Watch for signs that your dog is looking for a place to go to the bathroom. When you see the signs, immediately take them to the door, put them down and PRAISE THEM. They made it (with your help to the door) then take your dog outside to the bathroom area and wait.

You want to stay with them until they go. This will give you another opportunity to praise, pet and encourage your dogs good behavior of going to the bathroom outside.

TIP#3 When a dog has an average vocabulary
of about 30 words or so they understand, you don't want to waste 10% or more of her understood words just so you can use different commands.

This tip is... Use Single Word Commands and use them consistently. We're not talking about commands all being a single word in the literal sense here. Going outside is a good command, going potty, go potty, bathroom break, etc. are all perfectly acceptable commands if used consistently.

Don't use go potty one time, then bathroom break the next and Go out and go pee, the next and expect your puppy to quickly understand what you want them to do.

TIP#4 Watch your pet when inside your home.
Penning your puppy isn't the same as house breaking. Your puppy needs to be confined to their crate whenever you cannot actively watch them. It only takes a few seconds for an accident to happen so you need keep a watchful eye to limit accidents.

As you might guess, house puppy training takes effort both day and night. When House Training a Puppy, lugging that dog crate from room to room is no pleasant day at the park. The answer of course, is an easy to move, lightweight portable dog crate. Move it from your living room to your bedroom with 1 hand.

For the best and quickest house puppy training result, you need to keep your dog close to you and involved in your life as much as possible. Not having to continuously move that cumbersome metal cage or bulky plastic crate throughout your home will make potty training a lot easier.
