Believe it or not, this is also the cause of some of the most frustrating situations that continue to be talked about on forums, pet and veterinarian radio talk shows and even on some cable television stations. In almost every case, the problems of the poorly housetrained dog or puppy can be blame directly on the owner.

There are some owners who simply believe that it is somehow cruel or inhumane to have good control of your pet. This type of permissive pet ownership results in some very ugly situations that include:

- Yelling and threatening the dog

- Giving up and making the dog and outside only pet

- Scolding and general nastiness

- Rubbing the animals nose in the accident

What's interesting is that while these permissive pet owners are so concerned about confining their puppy or dog well in their home when they can't watch them, they have no problem with the above cruelties.

Make no mistake, the above actions of a human against a loyal dog and best friend can only be considered cruel. The reason is that the dog was poorly housetrained and doesn't understand what she needs to do to make her human happy.

So many owners have given up house training while also blaming the puppy for not being able to learn. In fact, it's the owner that was unwilling or unable to learn to use the simple crate training methods that have worked for hundreds of thousands of dogs and puppies for decades.

I encourage you not to be one of those human owners that don't make the effort necessary for the successful house training of your pet. While it does take some effort, the result is a completely reliable housetrained best friend that will be a source of joy, laughter and pleasure for years to come.

Remember, when it comes to potty training your pet, if the student hasn't learned the teacher hasn't taught.
