Crate Training Whining

Stop that Crate Training Whining Now!

Crate training and whining seem to go together when you first start housetraining. While all of us like to be thought of as nice and kind, the thought of allowing our pet to yap, bark, cry and whine while in the crate is more than some of us can stand. During the first few times you may put your pet into his crate, you can expect some crate training whining. The reason is that it's new and he doesn't like it. . . yet.

To those who have a problem with this, you need to realize WHY your dog is making such a ruckus. The answer of course is that little poochy isn't getting what he wants.
Is he hurt by being in the crate? NO!
Is he hungry or thirsty? NO!
Is he being harmed in any way shape or form? NO!

Then why would your puppy be making such a scene? The answer again is that they aren't getting what they want. Your puppy wants to have complete freedom and hang around with you and play anywhere he wants. The only problem with this is that until he learns where to go to the bathroom, he will squat and pee whenever he needs to go no matter if it's outside or on your hand woven rug.

So if your pet is whining every time he's in his crate, you cannot allow him to win this war of wills. If you pick him up or give him what he wants, you can be certain, he's learning that if he makes enough noise, you will do what he wants you to do. This sets you up not only for housetraining failure but also a possible lifetime of being controlled by your pet.

Don't assume if you find he's peeing in his crate that it's against you or some type of temper tantrum. Dog crate wetting is usually a SYMPTOM of a problem that's easily corrected. Take a look however for some of these more serious reasons why you may find pee in the dog crate.

Imagine every time you go out the door, your dog yelps, whines and cries enough to be a nuisance to the neighbors. It happens a lot folks. So the answer is not to let your puppy or adult dog, learning housetraining manners to win the war of wills. You MUST not remove your puppy from the crate no matter how much they cry and whine. Crate training whining will settle down quickly as long as YOU WIN and your dog doesn't.

It will only be a few times and you pup will soon learn that it's not so bad in his crate. Heck, most pets actually enjoy being in their crate after they become accustomed to it and know what to expect from you. This is especially true of puppies living in homes with young children. While kids and pets are great for each other, puppies need rest time without being petted and loved every single minute.

By holding firm, you are teaching your dog that not only are you boss but he can't cry his way out of the situation. He will quickly that when he's placed in the crate to settle in and enjoy the experience. After all, he also knows that you will be coming back to pick him up and give him loads of love and attention.

One good way to make it a little easier on your pup is to have a little treat and maybe a favorite toy in the crate for him to occupy his time. Just remember that crate training whinning is a very short term effort to get attention and take control.
