Emotions run high when thinking about getting a pet but we never seem to consider the work involved with house training or canine crate training. We notice those well behaved animals walking nicely beside their owner and never consider the effort it took to teach good on leash behavior. Maybe you watched on television those obedience training exhibitions or even competitive dog and owner events such as the flying disk competition or the agility games. We both know however that crate training probably didn't figure into the equation but it was more about all the positive things having a pet can bring. Keep in mind that if you really want a companion animal though, you need to train them so they know where to go to the bathroom Canine crate training no matter if the animal is a puppy or an adult dog should be started almost immediately. That is, if they want to have their pet be an actual companion and enjoy the comfort of having a good friend spend time with them in the house. Do not mistake crate training for kenneling. Crate training is a method of confinement that keeps you in control of your doggie pal and limits his ability to get into trouble. It is NOT is not the same as putting them in a cage for storage to bring out when you're again interested in playing. Make no mistake, these same people who complain about how terrible it is to use a cage for confinement are the same folks that will be begging for help with their puppies bad habits when he's a few months older. It's at this point where many dog owners run into problems. This is especially true of owners whose dog has grown up without any house training. No matter the age, if working with a puppy, adolescent or adult animal with bad habits, you need to take action and limit their freedom in the house.
Understand, it's not about caging your dog but only limit his freedom to the time that you can give 100% of your attention. The idea is to limit and if possible completely eliminate any bathroom accidents in the home.
